Manufactured from 4 mm aluminium, additionally folded and welded for maximum rigidity, the skid plate offers extremely robust protection while remaining lightweight. The included bolt set ensures secure and precisely fitting installation at original mounting points.
Why Do AWD Vehicles Need Dedicated Differential Protection?
In all-wheel drive vehicles such as the Ford Transit Custom AWD or VW T7 4motion, the rear axle differential sits lower and more exposed than in front-wheel drive vehicles. Damage to the differential is not only extremely expensive – it means the immediate total failure of the all-wheel drive system and renders the vehicle practically unusable. Repair costs can quickly reach five figures, not to mention downtime and recovery costs, especially when the breakdown occurs far from any workshop.
4 mm Aluminium – Folded and Welded
The differential skid plate is manufactured from robust 4 mm aluminium, further reinforced through folding and welding. The folds act as stiffening ribs and substantially increase load capacity; the welds join the elements into a solid unit that withstands even hard impacts. Despite the robust construction, aluminium remains significantly lighter than steel – an important advantage, as additional weight at the rear axle would negatively affect driving dynamics.
What Is Protected?
The differential skid plate covers the entire rear axle differential and protects the differential housing as the heart of the AWD system, the sensitive driveshafts and CV joints, seals and bearings, as well as sensors and wiring in the immediate vicinity of the differential.
Installation at Original Mounting Points
The differential skid plate is supplied with a complete bolt set. Installation takes place at existing mounting points – no drilling, no welding, no modifications to the vehicle are required. The mounting system is designed so that the plate sits firmly and without play. Installation can be carried out using standard tools.
Two Surface Variants
The differential skid plate is available in two finishes. Plain aluminium offers a corrosion-resistant, maintenance-free surface that develops a protective oxide layer – the functional choice for maximum protection. Black powder-coated provides additional corrosion protection and a visually refined surface that integrates harmoniously and discreetly into the underbody.
